Ah, the big questions in life. Why do you never have a business card on you when you need one? Why did it take so long for Carrie and Big to get together? And how is it legal that wine has so many calories??
But seriously, if you’re running a business, your list of questions is probably as long as your to-do list.
- Should I outsource my social media accounts?
- How do I hire a new team member?
- What CRM should I be using?
- What’s a CRM?
If you’re a solopreneur or have a really small team, then you don’t have anyone to ask or bounce ideas off – and that’s when things can start to feel really lonely.
Or perhaps you run a larger business with a team and you’re looking to scale. You might be wondering how do you keep everyone accountable, what’s the best way to delegate and become a true leader?
But whether you’re a one-woman-band or leader of hundreds, often we spend so much time on our own that we can convince ourselves everyone else has it all figured out, and there must be something wrong with what we’re doing and how we’re doing it.
And that’s when the fear, doubt and suffocating imposter syndrome kicks in.
You’re probably familiar with the internal dialogue… “How do I not know that? Everyone else seems to know what to do. What’s wrong with me? I don’t understand why all those PDFs I’ve downloaded and podcasts I’m listening to aren’t making a difference. Maybe I should just pack it all in and get a J-O-B.”
Woah, hold on!
I’m here to tell you:
- you don’t know that because you haven’t learned how to do it yet;
- everyone else doesn’t know what they’re doing;
- there’s nothing wrong with you;
- the PDFs and podcasts aren’t working because they’re not giving advice specific to your business; and
- go back to a 9-5? Really??
So, what is the answer?
Step One – Don’t be afraid to ask the question.
Remember, even those entrepreneurs you look up to – whether that’s Marie Forleo, Lewis Howes, Carrie Green or any multi-million business empire guru who inspires you – didn’t have it all worked out at your stage in business, far from it. And if truth be told, they probably still don’t.
I’ve worked behind the scenes of lots of successful businesses (some of which are multi 6-figure), and many were a hot mess until I came along!
It is OK to not have it figured out, and it is OK and necessary to ask for help.
Step Two – Figure out what it actually is that you want to know
You may think that the question is “How do I hire a VA?”, when actually what you want to know is how to run your business more efficiently so that you have more time to work on things that generate revenue.
Clarity is key in feeling confident and taking intentional action to take your business forward and make a difference.
Step Three – Take a step back
Rather than reacting, or firefighting, what is it that you actually need to do to sort out an area of your business? Not what someone on Instagram is doing or that very active Facebook Group member, but you! In your business?
Especially in the online business world, it’s so easy to get caught up in looking at what everyone else is doing. But, at the end of the day, this is your business, and it’s your living that depends on it. And don’t forget – people only put out there what they want others to see! You never know what kind of catastrophes they have going on behind their laptop screens!!
You may be a solopreneur, but you don’t have to go it alone. And once you realise that not only is it OK not to have all the answers, but completely normal, you can stop beating yourself up and get back to the problem at hand.
However, I totally understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help. I know how much your business means to you. I know how much blood, sweat and tears you’ve gone through to get this far, if you’ll excuse the cliché.
You think that no one can understand your business the way you do. But there’s a reason they say “two heads are better than one”!
As an online business strategist, I can help you get that clarity you need – and then come up with solutions that are uniquely tailored to you, your business and your situation (no cookie-cutter approach here!)
Working with me isn’t giving up control of your business. It’s taking back control of your business – and your life.
