We wouldn’t be human if we didn’t doubt ourselves at some point, and being a business owner is a sure fire way to probably doubt yourself a little more than others! Especially if we are a company of one.  

Am I adding enough value?

Do I actually know what I’m doing?

Am I too expensive?

If I create that new offering will anyone want it, let alone buy it?

Do any, or perhaps all, of those sound familiar? 

I have been through a lot of cycles of self-doubt on my business journey, in the really early days, but also as the business has grown and I’ve reached new levels of success. I still get moments of it now (usually when I’m about to launch something new!), but I have learnt to focus on specific positives which help keep my mind in check and making progress.

Try to avoid comparison

Not so long ago I took a big step back from social media. 

While I know that what you see on Instagram isn’t always real life, the more and more you have that type of content in front of you, the easier it is to slip into feeling like you’re not good enough, and your business isn’t doing well at all because you don’t have what Instagram is telling you you should. 

I do have a very successful business.  I have genuine connections and I have an offering that is needed (and I enjoy it too!) and my next goals are more than achievable.  

But comparisonitis can tell you otherwise.  So if you’re feeling overwhelmed by everything you’re seeing, take a step back, put yourself in your own bubble with people that make you feel good and supported.  

Focus on the good and keep going! You do you!

Think about the outcome (aka starve the doubt)

That first moment you set your next goal, you knew the outcome you wanted to have.  You knew how it would benefit you, your business and your lifestyle.  

You felt good, excited, positive!  

Go back to that feeling and remember why you set the goal in the first place. Tap back into that good energy which will override any of the doubt you might currently be feeling. It should re-ignite your motivation to take action and know you’re on the right path.

Set Short Term Milestones

One of the main reasons goals aren’t achieved is that they are too big to do in our mind’s timeframe.  

You may achieve half or even ⅔ of the goal before you run out of steam, it all feels too difficult and you decide to stick with what you’re currently doing and let that idea gather dust. 

It’s commonplace to think things are going to get done quicker than they will, but quite often that’s not the case.  Especially with business goals where there are a lot of moving parts. 

Break your goal down into achievable milestones and focus on one part at a time. Not only will you keep momentum, but you will actually achieve the overall goal quicker as you know exactly what you should be doing when, and you won’t procrastinate and waste time.

Take Action (aka feed the dream)

Taking action is the only remedy to stop feeling stuck and to reinforce that you are capable of achieving what you set out to.  Feed the dream, make it bigger, brighter and ready to become part of your business.
